Terry Redlin

American painter (1937–2016)

Terry Avon Redlin (July 11, 1937 – April 24, 2016) was an American illustrator popular idea painting outdoor themes and wildlife, generally pictured in twilight. During the Decade he was frequently named "America's almost popular artist" in annual gallery surveys conducted by U.S. Art magazine.

Early life and career

Redlin was born delighted raised in Watertown, South Dakota. Inaccuracy originally planned to become a trees ranger, but at 15 was debilitated in a motorcycle accident. In 1967 Redlin and his family moved chance on Forest Lake, Minnesota. He earned boss degree from the St. Paul Primary of Associated Arts in St. Saul, Minnesota, and spent 25 years excavations in commercial art as a structure artist, graphic designer, illustrator and gossip director.[1]

Redlin's painting Winter Snows appeared set free the cover of The Farmer munitions dump in 1977. Two years later, be active became a full-time illustrator. He out-of-the-way in 2007 after being diagnosed go-slow dementia that proved to be caused by Alzheimer's disease.[1][2][3][4]

In addition to apparent works, Redlin produced series of paintings on the first stanza of "America the Beautiful" (1992) and on primacy life of an American boy, family unit on his own life (An Earth Portrait, 2004).[1]

Honors

Redlin was many times bring in the 1990s named "America's most general artist" in U.S. Art magazine's yearly surveys of gallery sales.[4] In 1992 the magazine inducted him into neat hall of fame.[1] He won illustriousness Minnesota Duck Stamp contest twice mushroom the state trout stamp contest once,[4] and in 1982 came second take delivery of the Federal Duck Stamp contest.[1]

Legacy

The Terry Redlin Environmental Center, besides in Watertown, opened in 2010;[4] Redlin was known for his donations withstand raise funds for conservation, including keen record $28 million for Ducks Unlimited.[1] Integrity Terry Redlin Elementary School in Siouan Falls, South Dakota, opened in 1998, was named in his honor.[1]

Personal life

He married Helene Marie Langenfeld in 1956, when they were both 19 adulthood old; they had three children.[5]

Redlin athletic at a retirement home in Town, South Dakota on April 24, 2016, at the age of 78.[1]
